The sheep get fed everyday. They need a few square bales of hay and a pound of corn per sheep to give them energy to stay warm during the cold months. I learned that sheep don’t feel that cold, especially in their feet. Their hooves don’t have nerve endings and their thick wool keeps them cozy and dry all winter long.
The hay that is baled up in the summer months is stored in the “hay mow”, the second story of old barns. It is kept to feed livestock during the months there is no grass to feed on in the pastures. Hay is dried grass and alfalfa which is nutrient rich for these ruminant animals. They seem completely satisfied eating the dried or fresh versions.
