Cleaning up

Part of my dad’s old hog business included a manure pit and some buildings for a more intensive and efficient hog production business. In the mid-1970s, he transformed his farmstead to a more industrialized look, putting up hog confinement units for farrowing and finishing hogs. The other day, a demolition crew came in and started to destroy his unused old hog buildings after they were stripped of all their steel and copper. To my dad, it was a sad and slightly bittersweet day. He had already buried two other buildings for hog production. They definitely got their use and were paid for many times over.
